Black Oxide Gearbox Bearing

Black Oxide Bearings

Black Oxide bearings have been very successful in preventing White Etching Cracking failures that are prevalent in the Wind industry. The bearing is subjected to a multi stage aqueous salt solution bath process. The result is a 1 -2 µm thick Black Oxide layer. This is typically applied to the rolling elements as well as the inner and outer rings. The Black Oxide coating offers benefits that are very important to the Wind Industry.

Improved corrosion and chemical resistance.

This helps protect the bearing against moisture accumulation in the oil, and aggressive oil additives that are suspected to contribute to Hydrogen embrittlement and White Etching Cracking.

Improved oil adhesion.

This means the bearing performs better in poor lubrication conditions and is less susceptible to smearing.
